Miniature Fondant Cake

This cake is perfect to include as part of a picnic scene on a larger cake. This will come in a later tutorial so stay tuned!

Step 1 - Materials

You will need:
  • Cornflour or icing sugar (Also called confectioners sugar)
  • White fondant
  • Pink fondant
  • Piping Tip (I used Wilton #4)
  • Fondant knife
  • Small paint brush
  • Rolling Pin
  • Little bit of water

Step 2 - Making the Cake

Start with the white fondant, roll the fondant into a ball and cut in half.

Roll the two white fondant pieces into round balls and then flatten into two small discs, place a little bit of cornflour on one side of the disc and put both discs together as shown below (this is so that the fondant discs don't stick together.

Step 3 - Assembling the Cake

Next make one round disc from some of the pink fondant the same size as the white fondant discs.

Paint the bottom white fondant disc with a small amount of water and place the pink fondant disc on top (only use a small amount as too much water will make the fondant a sticky mess). Then paint the top of the pink fondant disc with a small amount of water and place the 2nd white fondant on top, ensure that all of the discs are aligned as per below.

Take the leftover pink fondant and slightly flatten with your palm. Using the piping tip cut out 10 circles from the fondant (you can use the end of a very small paintbrush or a toothpick to very gently push out the balls from the piping tip). Once you have the circles, slightly roll each one to make a small ball.

Paint around the edge of the cake with a very small amount of water and then stick the balls evenly around the top of the cake.

You now have your cake (and you can eat it too ha ha). You can either leave the cake whole or cut a slice out. Enjoy!
